The Rookies are back for another year

On a wet and rainy spring evening last week in Auckland a generous handfull of fashion industry reps and a strong crowd of fashion kids turned up to St Pauls cathedral for another year of the AUT Rookie show.
Standouts included Megan Hemmings collection made from ostrich leather ( above) and Olivia Benefield's collection inspired by motherhood, (below).

Olivia Benefield's collection featured prints from her prenatal scans showing her sons foetus.

Lan Ching Fu's collection broke down the boundaries between jewellery and clothing.

There was loads of leather pieces and an abundance of strong knitwear and menswear collections. Blaire Archibald's collection was particularly strong but after his the menswear became a little monotonous, I would have liked to see more varied collections. Post-graduate student Glenn Yungknickel offered that something different that I craved with his tailored collection entirely in pink.
